When the sun is shining, it’s a blue sky Autumn day, you live in the fabulous South West AND it’s a Sunday, where else would you want to be but sitting outside with food, wine and a vineyard view. On this particular Sunday, Watershed was the destination and despite the slight cool breeze, we picked the sunniest spot on the deck and settled in.
After a lovely scenic drive through lush greenery, vineyards galore and the occasional threat of rain, we were hungry and desperately needed to make a decision on where to eat lunch. I think I will forever find this decision difficult, partly because I’m indecisive but also because I live in an incredible part of the world full of so much deliciousness which I wholeheartedly intend on eating my way through, more than once.
Pasta. Honey. Wine. A winning combination, all made with love at Barnyard 1978. Barnyard is situated in Yallingup, on the corner of Caves Rd and Canal Rocks Rd and stepping into this beautifully designed, glass walled building, over looking vineyard and beehives, you know you’re in for a good meal. For a winery restaurant located in a prime wine growing region surrounded by plenty of options, Barnyard is a breath of fresh air. While I love a good fancy winery lunch as much as the next person, this place is relaxed and casual (yet classy), friendly and inviting and has a lovely charm about it.
It was a sunny, blue sky winters day a few weeks ago and with a lunch date with my mum on the cards, we were hanging out to head back to Green Door Wines in Ferguson Valley after a successful birthday lunch earlier in the year. The Ferguson Valley is a charming wine region 20 minutes east of Bunbury and aside from being in my parents back yard it is one of my favourite places to visit. It’s much much smaller than the likes of Margaret River and because of its size it has a lovely warm, community feel to it without all the tourist hype. There is a handful of fantastic wineries, a couple of breweries and restaurants and lots of pretty scenery, especially at this time of year when everything is green and lush.

I’m passionate about good honest food and fresh produce and I really enjoy (try) keeping up to date and ‘in the know’ of all the new (and not so new) Perth bars and restaurants while ticking them off my (rather long) list of places to go. I guess you could call it my ‘hobby’.
